Dr. Alice Katherine Hafso (Kjos)
July 7, 1926 - January 23, 2026
It is with sadness and joy that we announce that Alice Katherine Hafso (Kjos), 99, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on January 23, 2026 at Linden, Alberta, surrounded by her children and dearly loved by all. Alice's strong faith in God guided and anchored her
throughout her life.
Born in Provost to Knut and Annie Kjos, she was the youngest of seven children. Her father, a farmer from Norway, encouraged his daughters in their advanced education. Alice received her medical degree from the University of Alberta in 1951 graduating with fellow believer and close lifelong friend, Dr. Helen Huston, While interning in Saskatoon, she met her husband, Roy Hafso, a seminary student from Viking. Alice and Roy married in Provost in 1952, and in 1953 they welcomed the first of their 11 children, all of whom she referred to as her greatest joy. She had the heart of a servant, selflessly caring for her family, patients, and anyone in need who came to her. There was always a seat at her table. Her kind, gentle manner, and great sense of humour endeared her to all of her children, extended family and friends. Alice enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing. She sewed for her family and after her retirement took to embroidering everyone's name, from the great grandchildren and up, on a surprising variety of household items.
Alice lived her life trusting in Jesus with humility, courage, and grace. She prayed to the end of her days with a heart full of gratitude for God's goodness, provision, strength, and love. She is survived by her children Ches (Ruth), Helen (Mark), Tim (Lisa), Kurt (Tammi), Mary Alice (Tom), Rebecca (Larry), Tony (Stephany), Rhoda (Dirk) and David (Laarni) as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Roy, daughters Tavia and Anne, and granddaughter Raya. We are so grateful for the excellent care she received from everyone at the Westview Care Community and for her gracious friend Lois Findlay.
Her funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, February 7, 2026 at Golden Valley Lutheran Church in Viking, AB. Internment to follow. All are welcome. Donations made be made in her honor to The Canadian Bible Society
