Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Brigitta Doering (91) of Edmonton on Friday, April 21, 2017. She is predeceased by her husband Peter and survived by her beloved children; Barbara, Andreas (Nok), Bernard (Regina), Michael (Darlene), Birgit (Haim), and Raymond (Lynn); her 16 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren; her sisters, Helga, Margaret (Guenter) and families of Germany, and Ingrid and family of Viking. Brigitta and Peter Doering first settled in the Viking area in October, 1951. As refugees from war torn Germany they chose to start a new life working in agriculture in Canada. Raising a family on their farm demonstrated Brigitta's relentless work ethic, love of children, willingness to help others, positive attitude and love of nature. In addition to raising her family on the farm, Brigitta spent much of her life working in nursing homes in Viking and later Edmonton. She had so much compassion for the elderly and those needing support. Over the years Brigitta made sure to surround herself with beautiful flower gardens. She maintained her own flower and vegetable gardens right up until this past summer. She was the glue that kept the family close. Brigitta was continually planning family gatherings. Outings to local parks, Pigeon Lake and the mountains were always a priority for Brigitta. Words cannot express how much she will be missed. Her wisdom, her stories, or just being in her presence was a true gift.
A Memorial Service will be at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Viking, Alberta, Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 4:00 P.M. with Pastor Alvin Sorenson officiating. Inurnment will be at the Lornedale Cemetery.
