Damir was born in the Slavonia, province of Yugoslavia to Peter and Ana Bašurić. Both of his parents passed away while Damir was quite young. He moved to Canada at 18 years of age, with the help of his uncle and and auntie, Ivan and Ana Cablek, who resided in London, ONT. Damir was born again and transformed by the Lord Jesus Christ during a short stint in jail. With his new faith, Damir moved to Red Deer and then Edmonton for work. He worked as a hotel worker, bartender and salesman. In Edmonton Damir met many friends and lived in a Christian community. At his church, Damir He also met his adopted mom, Mrs. B. Damir also met his wife, Florenia, and introduced her to Jesus. He has been passionate about sharing the good news of Jesus ever since. After their first son, Jeremiah, they moved to an acreage outside of Strome, AB, where they raised a hobby farm of many kinds of animals. There they had one miscarriage, Genesis, and one son, John. They also sponsored Florenia's sister, Modesta, as their nanny. Modesta was able to bring her husband and children to Viking, AB. Damir and his family became rooted in the Kinsella Community Church. Eventually Florenia and the boys would move to Kinsella, AB while Damir moved to Meeting Creek, AB. Damir continued to raise animals and spread the good news until his passing. Damir was a very generous, if not eccentric man, who was also a soccer player, a butcher, a construction worker, an extrovert,  a movie critic, a chess player and most of all, a child of God empowered by the Holy Spirit.  He is survived by his wife, children, siblings - Ljubica, Gordana, Petar, and Josip - and his cousin Joseph Cablek, who lives in Edmonton, AB. Donations will go to World Vision where Damir sponsored many children. Damir wanted everyone to know John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

The family will be hosting a viewing on July 18 from 3-8pm at the Viking Funeral Home.

There will also be a funeral and open reception July 20th from 2-7pm at the Kinsella Hall. From 2-4pm will be the funeral and burial at God's Acre Cemetery. Around 4:30 will be food and a program celebrating Damir's life.
