Ellen Cecilia Krips
Ellen was born on the family farm near Dana, Saskatchewan in 1940 and passed away on
September 13th, 2017 in the Viking Health Centre.
Ellen graduated from Holy Family School of Nursing, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1962, receiving an award for efficiency in bedside nursing. Ellen's first nursing position was at the Unity Union Hospital, in Unity, Saskatchewan, where she met her husband Rodney and they were married in 1964.
Ellen was employed at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon for 7 years and where her sons Kelvin and Jason were born. Ellen's next nursing position was in Jasper, Alberta where she was employed for 3 years, then moving on to Viking where she nursed from 1975, retiring in 2010.
Ellen acted as a preceptor for many student nurses from Grant McEwan College, University of Calgary, Medicine Hat College and Lethbridge College who were completing their clinical experience in rural hospitals. Ellen also acted as a preceptor for nurses completing their R.N. refresher course through the East Central Health Region. In 1980, Ellen received a Nursing Administration Certificate.
Ellen's calling as a register nurse was recognized by her peers in her nomination for the Exceptional Nurse Award at the Health Care Service Summit Awards, which is a North American wide recognition program to honour individuals, teams and organizations for exceptional patient/customer satisfaction. For Ellen, it was always about the patient and patient care.
Ellen retired in 2010 after 48 years of nursing – her calling as an RN gave her deep satisfaction and purpose to those in need. As well, Ellen had a deep love and respect for her nursing colleagues, Doctors and the entire hospital staff.
Ellen is survived by her loving husband Rodney, son Kelvin ( Dianna) grandchildren Braeden and Kennedy, son Jason (Joanne) grandsons Aidan and Aaron. Special mentions are Ellen's exchange students who become her sons – Virgilio, Arturo and Miled.
Ellen will be fondly remembered by her siblings Walter (Elinor) La Brash, Sister in law Marjorie La Brash, James La Brash, George (Jane) La Brash, Edward (Diane) La Brash, Cecilia (Albert) Robertson, Marie Tupone, sister- in- law Sherida Krips as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ellen was predeceased by brother- in- law Nic Tupone , Brother Terry (sister- in- law Sally), sister- in- law Donna La Brash, Brother Tony.
Ellen's celebration of life will take place Tuesday September 19, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Viking Community Hall, Viking, Alberta with Reverend Father Luan Vu as Celebrant. Committal to follow at Viking Cemetery, Viking, Alberta.
