NORDSTROM, Elsie Violet (Rosen, Merta)
July 14, 1922- December 11, 2016

On Sunday, December 11, 2016, Elsie (Merta) Nordstrom of Viking, Alberta passed away at the age of 94 years.

She is survived by her family; Lane and his children, Jeremy Sommers and Lee Merta of Edmonton and Lloydminster; and Sandi (Neil) Barber, their son Quinn (Elise), her great grandson Micah, and daughter Becky Barber of Edmonton, and stepdaughters; Cheryl, Joan and Sylvia. Elsie is survived by one brother, Alfred (Dorothy) of Victoria, BC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Elsie was predeceased by her first husband Louis Merta, their infant son, Kenneth ;her second husband Alvin Nordstrom; parents Henny and Peter, and in order of birth, her siblings; Karl, Klas, Billy, Gerda, Edna, Esther and Mildred as well as family friend, Duchy.
Elsie's love for her family, her faith and music kept her strong, despite her constant struggle with pain. Elsie was a favorite elementary and music teacher to many children in the Viking area. She was a sweet, kind and gentle person who made friends wherever she went.
The family would like to thank the staff of Viking Extendicare for their compassion and care during her time living at the home.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Viking United Church, 5120 51 St, Viking, Alberta with Reverends Ken Flanagan and Scott Reynolds officiating. Inurnment for the family will follow at the Viking Cemetery. Mourners are welcome to lunch in church following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Viking United Church or Viking Health Foundation
