Gladys Smith was born March 15, 1918, in Tofield Alberta. She lived on a homestead west of Tofield. She had three siblings – George, Joan and Betty.
On April 15, 1939 she married Stanley Knox Smith. After their marriage they moved to Copper Mountain, British Columbia to work. They lived there until Stan was offered an elevator in Inland, Alberta and from there they moved to Fabyan, Alberta and finally settled in Wainwright, Alberta in 1947.
They had eight children – Ann, Bill, Donna, Pat, George, Doris, Bob and Betty and two step-sons Jerry and Victor.
While her family was in school she took a job helping the health nurses with the blood donor clinics. She worked for Simpson Sears for 7 ½ years before she started cooking at the hospital where she became head cook for Mrs. White. The family spent 2 years in Lethbridge where she worked various jobs. They then moved to Edmonton where she took a job at Woolco for 17 ½ years until she retired at age 65.
She leaves to mourn 8 children, 1 step-son, 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, 5 son-in-laws, 2 daughter-in-laws, spouses of the grandchildren, one sister and family, and one sister-in-law and family
She was predeceased by her parents Alice and George, husband Stan, brother George, sister Betty, step-son Victor, granddaughter Vicki, daughter-in-law Barb, granddaughter-in-law Julie, granddaughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Mary, great grandson Bryden, daughter-in-law Olga, daughter-in-law Madeline, son-in-law Lenis and brother-in-law Jim.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Tofield Alliance Church, at 2:00 P.M..
The family invites you for fellowship and lunch following the service at the church.
