Gordon Leonard Hoines was born November 4, 1930 to Selmer and Martha (Powell) Hoines in Viking, Alberta. He passed away peacefully on October 19, 2017 at the Viking Health Centre. Gordon married Betty Louise Otto on June 7, 1957 and had two sons. Rick in 1958 and Vaughn in 1961. Gordon farmed south of Viking until moving in town in the early 2000's. He moved in to the Vialta Lodge in 2012 and to the Viking Extendicare in 2017, very shortly before his passing.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Selmer (1983) and Martha (1993) and wife Betty in 2014. He is survived by his sons Rick (Janice) of Edmonton, and Vaughn (Sylvia) of Grande Prairie; Grandchildren Brianne of Viking, Melanie (Jeff) of Fort Saskatchewan, Neveya of Edmonton, Shaughna (Darren) of Edson, Amanda (John) of Hinton, and Shea of Vancouver and six great grandsons. He is also survived by his siblings Esther of Rimbey and Benny of Stony Plain as well as many other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Vialta Lodge, Viking Hospital and the Extendicare for the care and support they provided to both Gordon and Betty over the years.
A private service for immediate family will be held.
