Mrs. Helga Eurydice Johnston-Meakins passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the age of 90 years.

Helga was born in Viking, Alberta, July 27,1929, raised in the Viking area, following her school years she worked at various jobs, until returning back to the Kinsella area to settle and raise her four children, Garth (Peggy) Johnston, Kenneth (Shawna) Johnston, Margaret Johnston (Don Burkard) , Dorothy-jean (Brent) Hafso. She worked in long term care in Viking for over 25 plus years, a job she truly loved, she adored each and every resident, seeing many of them through their journeys . She met Claude Meakins in the early 1970's and moved her family north of Irma to make this her new home, together with the love of animals and farming the land they lived here until Claude's passing in 1996. From the farm she moved into Viking and lived independently with her dog Sparky until she went to Vialta Lodge in February 2015. She enjoyed trips to Brent and Dorothy-jean's farm to see the dogs and checking up on the farmers. When her memory started to deteriorate she  moved to Viking Extendicare until her passing. Helga believed in a good days work, honesty, her willingness to help others and her love for children. She loved to cook - a hearty meal was always available with something sweet to follow. Helga was always up to a good joke, she loved to laugh and was always quick to come back with a good one liner. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Viking, Alberta with Pastor Alvin Sorenson officiating.  Interment will be at the Jarrow Cemetery.
