In Loving Memory of Lane Carrington

May 30, 1950 – April 17, 2025

With hearts full of love and deep sadness, we say goodbye to Lane Carrington, who passed away peacefully in his hometown of Viking, Alberta, on April 17, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on May 30, 1950, Lane was the eldest of three sons born to Jack and Evelyn Carrington, and spent his entire life rooted in Viking—a place that shaped him, grounded him, and held his heart until the very end.

Lane was a proud entrepreneur, a builder of businesses, and a builder of people. His love for his community was evident in everything he did—from the deals he struck to the conversations he had over coffee with the boys or at the curling rink. He had a natural way of making people feel like they mattered. If you knew Lane, you knew his sense of humour, his appreciation for a good glass of rose, and the quiet, steady kindness that lived in his bones.

He was an avid curler in his day and a committed member of the Lion's Club. He hit the golf course every now and again and rode his Harley with the spirit of a man who knew freedom. But Lane's proudest accomplishment—by a country mile—was his family. He and Evelyn had three amazing kids: Valerie (Mike) Gilpin, Jody (Aaron Grant), and Curtis (Kim Dobovich), and he took immense joy in being "Grandpa Lane" to his grandchildren: Mikayla, Lanaya, Asher, Alyvia, Evan, and Carter. His brother Kevin (Becky) was the anchor and friend that was his constant. Later in life, he shared a beautiful chapter with his beloved partner Bev Welygan. Together they created a life full of adventure, laughter, and sunshine between Lloydminster, Viking, Huatulco and Arizona. Bev's son Mike (Konita) and their daughter Charlie brought Lane immeasurable joy.

Lane leaves behind a legacy of deep roots and wide impact. His presence was big without being loud, steady without demanding attention. He showed us what it means to show up—for family, for friends, for community—and how to live a life rich in connection, humour, and grace.

Lane was predeceased by his parents and his brother Grant Carrington and his infant sister Deborah. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all of us who had the honour of being in his world. A celebration of Lane's life will be held at the Viking Community Hall on Thursday, April 24 th at 11am. We would love for you to join us, raise a glass in his honour, and tell all the stories.
