Lydia Hanson passed away suddenly at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton on March 26, 2026 at the age of 92.

She will be dearly missed and remembered by her daughters Lori Schill (Bob) and Debbie Hanson (Ken) as well as by many nieces and nephews. .

She was predeceased by her husband Russell Hanson and son Brent Hanson, father and mother Gerhard and Maria Thielman, sisters Kay Thielman, Freida Thielman, Marie Stakaruk, and brother George Thielman.

Lydia was a huge contributor to the Viking community. She was involved in the Maple Lodge community, the UCW, the New to You, and the Viking Royal Purple. Many knew her as the Town Administrator for a number of years.

A Funeral Service will be held March 31, 2026 at 1:00 pm at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church, Viking, Alberta with Pastor Chris Koch officiating.

An inurnment will follow at the Viking Cemetery. Lunch will then follow at the Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the Viking Health Foundation or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
