SUDDABY, Margaret Mary (nee Page)
Margaret Suddaby, age 95, passed away on January 29, 2017 at the Viking Extendicare. Her youngest son Edwin was by her side. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her eleven children : Anita (Richard) Jenkins, Joan Spaven, Lynn Carter (Bill Kittle), Elaine Suddaby, Laureen Suddaby, Hazel Sakaluk, Donald (JoAnne) Suddaby, Clifford (Phyllis) Suddaby, Eileen (Mark) Voszler, Kevin Suddaby and Edwin (Linda) Suddaby. Also eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren and their families, and the many friends and neighbours who knew and admired her.
Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Reg Suddaby, and by sons-in-law Harvey Spaven and Jim Sakaluk.
Margaret lived in the Bruce, Lavoy and Viking area all of her life, always closely connected to the farming life. She was an only child who helped her parents on their farm until she married Reg in 1943. Then she happily – even enthusiastically – worked at her husband's side to keep their farm going and their large family supported. Even when she moved to Viking to live the retirement life, she continued to be keenly interested in crops, animals, the seeding and harvesting seasons: everything and anything to do with agriculture.
Margaret spent a lot of time gardening and did so with great skill, both to feed her family and to produce beautiful flowers and exotic vegetables. She was entrepreneurial and helped to make ends meet by selling cream and eggs from the farm.
She and Reg loved music. They always listened to and talked about songs on the radio, and in the evenings they often danced together in the kitchen.
Margaret had a curious mind, and she was a great talker. In later life she also became a writer. The ladies in the WI (Women's Institute) regularly assigned her to research and write reports to be read out at their meetings, and she shared her colourful memories by writing articles for the Viking News
Most of all, she was remarkably talented at motherhood. She gave all her children ideals to live by and at the same time gave them permission to become who they were meant to be.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Heart of Mary, Roman Catholic Church in Viking at 11:A.M. on Saturday, February 4 with Reverend Father Laun Vu as celebrant. Private inurnment will follow after lunch at the Lornedale Cemetery, Beaver County.
