Patrick
O'Halleran
d. Oct 14, 2022
Edmonton
Sadly, we announce the passing of Patrick (Paddy) O'Halleran on Friday, October 14, 2022 in Edmonton, Alberta. He went quietly to sleep in his chair.
Parick (Paddy) O'Halleran
Paddy was born and raised in Surrey, England which is where he remained until moving to Canada in 1975. He was the youngest of four, two brothers and one sister. His father James was Irish and his mother Anne, English.
He is survived by his wife Eileen of 69 years, his daughter Tricia Chrystian and one nephew here in Canada, John Lunn. There are many nieces and nephews in England along with old family friends.
At the age of 15 (1946) he left school and started working at a fruit and vegetable farm driving truck. At the age of 16 he started as an apprentice to become a finishing carpenter. In 1949 at the age of 18, he did his two years national service in the army, being stationed on the Island of Malta.
Upon returning to England, he continued his career as a carpenter which is pretty much what he did for the rest of his working life.
In July 1953 he married Eileen Brockway and in 1955 their only child Tricia was born.
In 1975 he and Eileen emigrated to Canada to join Tricia who was already living there to start a new life.
His passion in life had always been golf, so at the age of 59 he took the leap to become a Professional Golf Pro. He did complete the five year apprenticeship to become a class A assistant. He focused on being a teaching pro which he loved and continued to do after retiring. In his late seventies he would still give private lessons. He also had a successful golf club repair business which he run out of the house for many years. He never lost his passion for carpentry. He always joked with us that he was one of God's chosen few, a carpenter. Birdhouses and feeders he spent hours building and adding his creative touch. Many of us have his handy work at our homes, smile and think of Paddy.
For the last two years he has resided at Jubilee Lodge in Edmonton. He still remained pleasant and happy right to the end and was still offering golf tips to staff.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Bruce Cemetery, Bruce, Alberta on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven TeVelde officiating. Interment will take place at the Bruce Cemetery, Bruce, Alberta.
