Obituary

Real Noel Joseph “Ray” Gauthier, beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, and the steady heart of his family, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at the age of 75. In Loving Memory: Born September 16, 1951, in Welland, Ontario, Ray lived a life defined by love, strength, generosity, and quiet devotion to the people who mattered most to him. He was a man whose love was felt not only through words, but through the countless ways he showed up for others: with steady guidance, hard work, a helping hand, and the deep comfort of knowing he could always be counted on. For more than 35 years, Ray worked for CN Rail, building a life rooted in dedication, perseverance, and pride in a job well done. His work ethic was unwavering, but his greatest source of pride was always his family. Everything he did was shaped by his desire to provide, protect, and create a life filled with love for those closest to him. Ray had a special way of making people feel cared for. Whether it was through a family dinner, a thoughtful gesture, practical advice, or simply being present when someone needed him, he gave generously of himself. His warmth, quiet wisdom, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. To those who knew him best, Ray will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for the Montreal Canadiens, his wisdom and his deep love of music and the outdoors. He believed in family, integrity and the value of hard work. Through his example, he taught those around him what it meant to be dependable, loving and giving. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorraine Venus-Gauthier; his children, Dave Halabecki, Amber Gauthier, and Keri Seeland; and his cherished grandchildren, Rowan Seeland and Astrid Seeland. Ray is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Aline Gauthier, Bob Gauthier, and Guyline Gauthier, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman Gauthier, and by his parents, Georgette Gauthier and Patrick Gauthier. Although Ray’s absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved him, his love will continue to guide them every day. He will live on in the memories shared around the table, in the stories that bring laughter and tears, in the music that reminds us of him, and in the love his family continues to give one another. Ray will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
