VIOLA LAE of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on March 12, 2015, at the age of 93.
She was born at New Brigden, Alberta on February 24, 1922. She was the fourth child of Harold and Amanda Lae.
She attended school at Monitor and at Lake Thomas School at Viking and the Viking High School. After completing her Commercial courses at Camrose Lutheran College, she worked in Viking for two years and then moved to Edmonton in 1951. She worked in the accounting field. Her last place of employment was at Reed's China & Gift shop. She retired in 1986. The last few years she has resided at various seniors' residences; during her retirement & before, she enjoyed many cruises and holidays to Norway and other places.
She has also been active in volunteer work, spending many hours at the West Edmonton Mall Chapel; the World Mission Prayer League; and she was an active charter member of Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edmonton.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Marie Atkinson of White Rock, B.C. and Leonora (Owen) Giebelhaus of Calgary; sister-in-law Marjorie Lae of Burnaby, B.C.; 3 nephews Harley (Shirley) Atkinson of Taccoa, Georgia and their two daughters Sarah (Ben) and Hannah (Ben); Dennis Atkinson of Surrey B.C.; Allen (Karen) Giebelhaus of Abbotsford, B.C. and their three sons James, Scott and Matthew; her two nieces Janice Guy of Carmel, Indiana, and her daughter Michelle Mericle of Calgary and her family; and Ingrid (Matt) Kunau of Burnaby, B.C. Viola was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Clifford and Merlin; and one sister, Gladys.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church at 10815-76 Avenue in Edmonton on Friday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church in Viking on Friday, March 20 at 3:00 p.m. with a burial at the Golden Valley Lutheran Church Cemetery Viking, Alberta.
