Obituary

William "Peter" McArthur of Viking, Alberta passed away in his sleep on September 2, 2021 at the age of 82 years.  Peter was predeceased by his parents Olava and Peter, his brothers Ken, David, Duncan and Gordon, his long-term companion Harriet Newby, brother-in-law Art and sister-in-law Gail.  He is survived by two sisters:  Margaret and Shirley; four brothers:  Jim, Claude, Bruce and Cam; four children:  Jeff, Winston, Brian and Cheryl; nine grandchildren:  Kaleigh, Kole, Karson, Jordan, Joshua, Cody, Richard, Michael and Thomas; two great grandchildren:  Pisimoyapiy and Lily; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Peter was born in Viking, Alberta in 1938 and married Violet in 1962 (divorced).  He later met Harriet Newby, and they were together for several years.  Peter most enjoyed visiting with Lawrence Newby and family at the farm.  He had many occupations over the years, starting at a very young age, leaving home at 14 to earn money to send home to help his family.  He worked as a seed cleaner, on pipeline, electrician, realtor, cabinet maker, politician and historian.  Peter enjoyed curling, volunteering with Scouts, Police Boys Band, Seniors Center, working on the family tree, writing Common Sense articles for the Viking Weekly Review and Vegreville Observer, competing in the Seniors' Games, and eating potato dumplings.  He was known for his ability to research and his attention to detail.  He had single-minded determination to complete his books:  My Many Hats, Pearl of the West, Eric the Red, and Pearl's Mysterious Return.

Service will be held at the Lutheran Church in Viking at 1:00 P.M. on October 2, 2021 with Pastor Alvin Sorenson officiating.   Inurnment will follow at the Viking Cemetery.

Masks will be Mandatory at all times.
